Hello *takes deep breath before first proper post*
OK, so for a couple of months my voices (which I've had for years) have been increasingly harder to deal with (possibly partly what led me to join here lol) and I've been looking at/trying out new techniques to deal with them.
Usually I find music quite helpful, although of late that's been less effective as I find there are times when I simply cannot hear anything else whatsoever, as my voices are just so loud and constant.
So I was reading around the wonderweb, and found this guy who's a *insert posh title here* something that crosses sound with psychology . And he talks of confusing the sound receptors in the brain, by using three or four independent sound sources, such as four CDs playing. He's not a voice hearing specialist or anything, he was just talking generally about auditory illusions (not hallucinations) and how it's possible to fool the brain in the same way optical illusions work.
So I'm going to try to translate that to fit what I need. I'm thinking maybe the spoken word would be more effective than purely music, so I'm gonna get some talking books and stuff, and a friend is going to record her speaking for me to see if a familiar voice helps more than just Mr Random Narrator.
Remembering that the idea is to confuse and overload the sound centre of the brain, rather than simply being louder than the voices, I'm hoping that it might go some way to helping.
Anyone ever tried anything similar?
